The park areas below the Barnett Reservoir dam will be closed to fishing on Saturday and Sunday due to an effort to remove trash from the Pearl River.
The Pearl River Clean Sweep, a project led by Pearl Riverkeeper Abby Braman of Madison, is a water and shoreline trash removal effort that begins at the Pearl River headwaters near Philadelphia and continues to the Gulf Coast. Hundreds of volunteers are expected to be on the river and its tributaries in boats, canoes and kayaks. At the spillway, volunteers will be on land and on the water. It will also serve as a collection point for trash removed from the upper Pearl River.
