Bass bite remains strong for Polk County area anglers

Around Lakeland at Tenoroc, bass fishing was best on Lakes 3, 5, Fish Hook, Picnic, and Shop. Most of the bass were in the 12-16 inch range with two large bass over 23 inches this past week. Plastic worms and swimbaits produced best. Speck fishing was best on Lakes 2, 4, and 5. The best lakes for panfish were 5, and Picnic. The catfish bite has been best on Picnic Lake, reports FWC biologist Keaton Fish.

At Auburndale, speck fishing is good and there’s been a few bass mixed in with them. Lake Juliana has a better speck bite this week while drifting minnows and yellow jigs. Around Lake Alfred, Lakes Haines and Rochelle are good for limits of specks on minnows and jigs. A few schoolie bass being reported as well, reports Ron Schelfo at Ron’s Tackle Box (863-956-4990).
