The Ohio Wildlife Council is considering a rules change that could affect anglers who like to fish at Lake Erie. Several changes have been proposed for black bass fishing — including largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass — and that includes a change that will let anglers fish for black bass year round.
The current black bass fishing season in Lake Erie is closed from May 1 to the last Saturday in June. The proposed new season would remove the closure to allow for black bass fishing all year. Instead, the fishery would be protected with a daily bag limit of one black bass, with an 18-inch minimum size, from May 1 to the fourth Saturday in June.
