A new conservation program for freshwater bass fishing throughout Florida has been approved and will go into effect July 1. Biologists and officials of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spent nearly five years studying data, holding symposiums and stakeholder meetings, and in general listening to the people. The official vote to launch the plan came at an FWC meeting near Tallahassee on Feb. 11.
Tom Champeau, director of the Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management for the agency, said the plan will streamline regulations and in the long run is expected to yield more quality catches, two points that were commonly heard in stakeholder meetings.
