Not only are fishermen required to purchase a 2021 fishing license for the new year, but if they own a boat and live in Lake County they also must purchase a 2021 quagga mussel sticker, which is $20. A boat first has to be screened. If it passes the screening, the owner is required to purchase the sticker. If the boats fails the screening, it has to be inspected by a Lake County quagga mussel inspector. The sticker is good for the calendar year.
Vessels requiring a sticker include any personal watercraft and any trailered watercraft. Vessels that don’t require a sticker include canoes, kayaks, car-top boats, float tubes, rafts, windsurfer boards, boogie boards, non-motorized paddle boats and non-motorized sailboats that are less than 10 feet long. If you’re cited for not having a sticker the fine can be as high as $1,000. The stickers are sold at all the local tackle shops as well as other locations.
