Bass Pro hopes to get Atlantic City youths “hooked on fishing”

Bass Pro Shops is working to get the city’s youths hooked on a new hobby — fishing. The store this week donated hundreds of gently used fishing rods and reels to a local nonprofit that works with the city’s children. The effort comes in conjunction with Bass Pro Shop’s nationwide “Gone Fishing” initiative, collectively donating 32,000 rods to youth-based organizations.

The used rods and reels were collected at the shop earlier this year, allowing customers to trade them in for discounts on new gear, General Manager Megan Werber said, explaining that out the nearly 300 traded in, about 100 were useable. “Anything we do locally is incredibly important to us,” Werber said “Plus we are always about trying to get kids as well as women to pick up fishing.”
