ANDERSON — FLW tour veterans made time during this weekend’s competition on Lake Hartwell for a good cause. Cody Kelley and Nicole Jacobs were on hand Saturday morning for the FLW Foundation’s United Fishing Derby at Chris Taylor Memorial Park. The free event encourages fishing by providing reels, bait and advice from the bass fishing professionals.
Norman Gainey brought his grandson, Levi, to the park. The derby was a good excuse for the lifelong fisherman to see how much the 9-year-old likes fishing. “We fish different ponds around the area,” said Norman, who helped Levi pull in an 8-ounce catfish after the first two bites of the morning got off the hook. “I’m breaking him in early to see if he wants to be out here fishing. We come out early and he always wants to stay until the end.”
