Catching largemouth bass during the summer

Summer fishing on area reservoirs and any reservoir in the south can be tough during the hot weather between June and September and boy have we had a hot summer of late. However, there are lures that can be used to catch largemouth bass even when it is hot.

During the summer, I use a two-stage plan, which starts with targeting shallow fish in grassbeds, around docks and near blowdowns during the early morning with trick worms, topwater plugs and Texas rigged plastics and then when the sun is out bright, I move to deep water where crankbaits, Carolina rigs and football jigs are good choices. This week I will address crankbaits, which can catch larger fish when conditions are right, and normally that means anglers need to head away from the shoreline.
