Chickamauga Lake bass fishing brings attention, money to area

Chickamauga Lake is getting national recognition for bass fishing, and it’s impacting the local economy. Bassmaster Magazine named the lake 12th in the country on its list of 100 best bass lakes. We caught up with anglers Jon Lyle and Christian Castillo from California as they fished near Harrison Bay State Park.

“Today we are out here trying to catch some fish. Evidently the Harrison Bay area here is really well known for bass fishing,” Lyle said. They visited a local bait shop to get supplies, and bought their fishing licenses. “We probably put $150 to $160 dollars into our day,” Lyle said. “It’s had a huge economic impact for the whole area with a lot of people coming in from out of town just to see what the lake is all about,” said David Hickman, sales manager at Bass Pro Shops in East Ridge.
