Normally, Salem Parks & Recreation opens the Salem City Lake or Salem Reservoir this month, but with the coronavirus pandemic and the state’s stay-at-home order in full force, that isn’t going to happen. At this point, Parks Director Shane Franks announced his new target date for opening is May 2, pending the lifting of the stay-at-home order and the go-ahead from local and state health agencies.
His plan is to extend the season into October, whether the lake opens by May 2 or later in May or even June. He said the goal is to try to offer a full five-month season at the lake. Season passes won’t be sold until the opening date is solidified.
