Out on the Guam Museum courtyard, longtime talayeru Louis Camacho taught people how to successfully use the throw net to catch fish.
It’s all about swinging the weights back and forth to build momentum, Camacho said, as he was helping one interested student learn the motions. A good throw results in a wide, circular trap strong enough to catch as many as 300 fishes out on the reef. You’d have to let some of the fishes go, however, or else you won’t be able to pull in the net, Camacho said.
