Southwest Florida’s coldest water temperatures often occur in February. But the fishing action stays Fishing-Capital-of-the-World hot. This week’s report includes redfish, snook, spotted seatrout,  mackerel, groupers, snappers, and lots and lots of sheepshead in the briny. With big bass and limits of crappie biting on the sweetwater side for boaters and land-based anglers.

NAPLES: Naples Fishing Charters Capt. Mark Ward reports his goal for midwinter trips is to catch not only lots of fish but lots of variety as well. Tuesday’s trip in Rookery Bay filled that bill for the Eric Steel family with trout, sheepshead, snook, redfish, ladyfish, whiting, snapper, and even a polka dot batfish — a hook-and-line rarity among a total of eight species.
