Dan MacDougall didn’t just admire his daughter’s ability to overcome the bluefin tuna. He and the rest of the crew aboard his tuna chartering boat, Jan & Grace, stepped aside while Grace MacDougall took charge, grabbing hold of the line carrying the enormous fish. The job of wiring the tuna, the final moments of an epic tug-of-war match, belonged to her. She succeeded in drawing the bluefin to the surface on the late September day.
“I don’t know of any girl that I know of in the world that can handle wiring a tuna like Grace,” said her father. “It’s extremely rare to see girls do that because it requires a combination of technique and strength and Grace has both down pat.”
