Fulton High makes bass fishing its next team sport

Not a traditional high school sport, bass fishing is becoming a popular competitive extracurricular activity among students in Illinois. With plenty of candidates for the position of sponsor and coach, Fulton High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Patrick Henrekin is sure the school can start a bass fishing team this spring.

“In Illinois, it’s actually becoming an emerging sport,” said Henrekin Tuesday. In the Three Rivers Conference, which Fulton is part of, Riverdale, Bureau Valley and Newman Central have bass fishing teams, Henrekin said. The sport is becoming so popular that the Illinois High School Association is expanding the sectional tournament,” Henrekin said.
