Governor, visitors have successful day of fishing on the Mississippi River

“The weather could not be better.” Mayor Dave Kleis summed up one of the few aspects area leaders couldn’t organize. “I have not seen a more beautiful day for this type of event,” he said. Kleis was among the many people enjoying the annual Governor’s Fishing Opener Celebration.

And yes, fish were caught. Gov. Mark Dayton caught a 3-pound, 17-½-inch bass.  Kleis caught a 19-¼-inch smallmouth bass. “According to my guide, it was a mountable one,” he said. But his catch was returned to the river.
