Ice fishing basics for the winter

I can hardly remember a longer period of winter weather where the temperatures remained so brutally cold as they have during the past two weeks. Even the record-setting winters of the late 1970’s and early 80’s had the occasional moderate “upper 30” days here and there before we got slammed with more chill.

But, be that as it is, it has likely ensured an adventuresome angler with the opportunity to actually ice fish along the Mason Dixon — something we only get to do about once every six or seven years. If you’re new at the game or a seasoned vet, here are a few tips that can make the sport better.
