The EU’s “irrational” ban on recreational sea bass fishing is a sign of a regime “which is broken and unfit for purpose”, Cornwall MPs have claimed. North Cornwall MP Scott Mann said the six month moratorium on the species is unfair on recreational anglers, and harmful to UK tourism.

He adds that it is yet another reason to make “reclaiming territorial waters” a key topic in ongoing negotiations over EU membership. The comments came during a Parliamentary debate on the industry, which saw MPs from across Devon and Cornwall speak out against the ban.
