Hayden sophomore Thomas Heinen and teammate Brock Bila, of Overland Park, struck gold again July 16, winning the Student Angler Federation Kansas High School State Championship on Milford Lake.

The win qualified them for the Fishing League Worldwide Southern Conference Regional on Oct. 14-15 at Cypress Lake Bayou in Shreveport, La. “The tournament went great for us,” Heinen said. “It was a great day early in the morning, with the topwater bite being excellent for us. We got our three keepers on topwater early that morning and the rest of the day was very slow.
