Bass Pro Shops is laying off some employees at its corporate headquarters office on East Kearney Street, a company spokesman confirmed Thursday. The layoffs affected “less than twenty associates in our administrative office in Springfield,” said Bass Bro Shops spokesman Jack Wlezien.

“As we evaluate the dramatically shifting retail landscape we recently eliminated certain positions and reduced staff to continue providing our customers with the best value and service,” Wlezien wrote in an email. “We take personnel decisions very seriously and are assisting all impacted associates with severance packages and continuation of benefits. We continue to outperform other retailers and these actions, while difficult, are intended to keep the company healthy and strong.”
