This may be a year to discover lake fishing

After glowing reports from Mary Kaufmann and Susan Kingwill about how many trout they each fooled on a fly called “The Bubba” it was important to investigate this mysterious creation. Come to find out that one of the West’s noted fisherman and innovative fly creators, Ed Schroeder, gave these lady friends a lake pattern he named after his first and favorite big black Labrador retriever, Bubba.

Ed’s fly-fishing industry legacy blossomed after he began peddling Manchester, Vermont-based Orvis gear to a brand-new audience on the West Coast. Orvis was well established with Eastern sportsmen, but until Ed began visiting California dealers over 30 years ago and Brian O’Keefe joined in to handle the Northwest and Alaska, Western fishing retailers knew more about Sanskrit than about Orvis products.
