MORRIS – During the 2008-09 school year, the Illinois High School Association held its first bass fishing competition, with 199 schools taking part. Since then, the participation has grown to 262 schools competing, including Morris Community High School, which also began its program in 2008.
Morris is coached by Ray Odom, who runs Rayjus Performance Apparel Inc., a company that sells fishing jerseys and wraps boats with decals, among other services, and is a longtime fisherman himself. The state-qualifying team consists of Eli Gile, Seth Hornsby, Jeffrey Johnson and Jon Smyk, with other team members including Alex Lawyer, Jake Hulbert, Trey Budach and Craig Lawson.
