Especially when they start out at Stanley and Gloria Jackson’s annual Mountain Music Kids Bass Fishing Tournament. Now in its 26th installment, the legendary local tournament has grown from 26 entrants in its inaugural year to one of the largest Kids Bass Fishing tournaments in the entire country.
This Saturday, nearly 400 kids, along with adult participants, will flood Douglas Lake to compete in the tournament, enjoy good food, and have fun while doing it. Gloria and Stanley Jackson are both amazed at how the tournament has grown over the years, and Gloria recalled its humble beginnings back in 1990 when Stanley and Joe Greenlee had the idea for the tournament. The first year was just a father and child tournament and 26 participated on Cherokee Lake. They asked people to donate a fishing plug or hat so that each child could leave with something.
