NEW: Veteran angler missing on Lake O; fishing competition canceled

Hours after an Apoka man was last seen on Lake Okeechobee, authorities continue to search for the Fishing League Worldwide’s Costa Series competitor. Nik Kayler, a co-angler, and Bill Kisiah of Louisiana did not check in Thursday evening at the competition’s designated weigh-in spot in Okeechobee, the league said.

At about 11 p.m. Thursday authorities found Kisiah alive and the boat, a dark-colored Ranger Z521. As of 7 a.m. Friday, though, Kayler had not been located. The second day of the fishing competition was canceled as the search for Kayler continues. The men — both veteran fishermen who have competed in dozens of events — may have been heading toward South Bay, league authorities said.
