North Country Angling: Fishing Crystal Lake

The warm weather returned to the Mount Washington Valley this week. The heat brought temperatures in the Saco and Ellis Rivers to unsafe fishing levels during the day. In order to preserve the trout for cooler temperatures and fall fishing, we once again looked to the lakes for some angling action.

Crystal Lake in Eaton is one of those sleeper lakes that provide memorable warm-water action. The lake has a public boat launch. Being the perfect size to canoe, we backed the truck right down the launch and slid our canoe out the back. Crystal Lake does allow power boats that are 10 horsepower or less and has low-wake restrictions to minimize the erosion that repeated waves would bring. This lake is less than 100 acres, so if you decide to use a motor, please use trolling speed.
