NRA leaders stump for Roy Blunt during stop at Bass Pro Shops’ Springfield gun museum

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt kicked off a day-long tour of Missouri alongside top National Rifle Association officials with a campaign stop in Springfield early Thursday. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox, the head of the organization’s lobbying arm, separately spoke for about 15 minutes during the 9 a.m. campaign event, which was held at the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum inside Bass Pro Shops.

Homing in on potential challenges to gun rights, the pair highlighted the fact that the Senate is responsible for confirming U.S. Supreme Court nominees, and that the next president is likely to have multiple vacancies to fill. They invoked Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s name more often than Jason Kander — the Democratic Secretary of State who is running against Blunt in November.
