Osprey found dead on Trout Creek, tangled in fishing line

An osprey found dead on the banks of Trout Creek in the Routt National Forest in northwest Colorado died when it became entangled in fishing line, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said Monday.

The person who reported the dead raptor told wildlife officer that it looked as though the bird had been shot.“The line was wrapped around the osprey’s feet and neck,” wildlife officer Andrea Sponseller said.  “Anglers should never discard fishing line, hooks or bait along a waterway. All of these can be harmful to wildlife.”
