Outdoors: College student set to take on professional bass fishing’s best

He’s 21, a student at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee, and in less than two weeks will take center stage among the best of the best in professional bass fishing. Are you ready for this, John Garrett?

“It seems pretty surreal to see my name on the list,” says Garrett, referring to the list of 52 anglers set to compete in the 2017 GEICO Bassmaster Classic presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods on March 24-26 on Lake Conroe  in Houston. In early August 2016, Garrett, who was 20 at the time, became the youngest collegiate angler to earn a berth in the Bassmaster Classic while competing in the Carhart Bassmaster College Series Classic Bracket on his home waters of Kentucky Lake.
