Parents play big role in high school bass fishing

Pickups with empty fishing boat trailers were scattered throughout Riverfront Park Saturday and near the Ridge Pointe Subdivision along East Ice Plant Road.

There was little activity except for some people fishing along the bank. The boats that had been on the trailers were on Pickwick Lake, carrying high school anglers from throughout the state who are competing in the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Assocaition tournament. The tournament attracted 239 boats, each containing two student anglers and a boat pilot. By about 10 a.m., the majority of anglers were out on the water.
