The Birmingham-based Bassmaster Magazine has confirmed what many local fishermen say they’ve known for years: Pickwick Lake is the state’s best for bass fishing. In fact, the lake, in annual rankings collected from state fish and wildlife agencies and input from bass anglers around the country, is ranked number one in Alabama and number five in the Southeast.
Tennessee River fishing guide Cameron Gautney, of Sheffield, said he wasn’t surprised to get word of Pickwick’s ranking.”I’m seeing a lot more boats on Pickwick and people are coming from all over the country to fish on it,” he said.
