Cabela’s will hold its annual meeting Dec. 13 at 8 a.m. at the company’s headquarters in Sidney. Not on the agenda: details of the $5.5 billion acquisition by Bass Pro Shops, which was announced in October. The company said in a government filing that a separate meeting and shareholder vote will be held at a later date.
Shareholders and community members may still use the meeting as a chance to bring up the merger and how it will affect Sidney, a town of 6,800 in which 2,000 people work at Cabela’s. The company, when the deal closes, will be a subsidiary of Bass Pro and will be headquartered in Springfield, Missouri. “My guess is that the elephant in the room is gonna be the Bass Pro deal, and that’s not on the agenda,” said Rob Berick, senior vice president and managing director of Falls Communications, a public and investor relations company in Cleveland.
