Anglers in Lake Dauphin have to temporarily hang up their fishing poles. A temporary ban on all commercial and recreational fishing at the northern Manitoba lake has been put in place by Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship in order to protect the walleye populations during the spawning period.
The province announced Tuesday that only aboriginal rights holders will be allowed to fish in the lake and must release any walleye between 45 and 70 centimetres in length. The temporary measures take effect immediately and will be in place until the completion of the walleye spawning period.
