Cooler temperatures and weather fronts moving through the region have slowed fishing activity, but it will rebound. We are in a typical Nebraska spring weather cycle. Do not despair, fellow anglers.
You can still catch fish when the action slows — you just need to adjust your tactics. My best recommendation is use smaller bait, fish slower and fish a little deeper. This was the tactic I used while flyfishing an Interstate 80 lake this week … more on that in Sunday’s column. Fish are a bit lethargic during weather cycles like we have now. They really don’t want to move much. You need to get a good bait choice right in front of them and hold it there to entice a bite.
