Fishermen at Clear Lake faced hot weather and loads of weeds this past week. The bass action also has slowed a little and most of the fishermen were happy to catch 10-15 fish for a day on the lake. The size of the bass is also a factor, most weighing less than 3 pounds.
Clear Lake changes yearly and that includes the size of the fish caught. This year the smaller bass dominate and any bass weighing more than 5 pounds is considered a trophy. There are larger bass out there but not is the great numbers of past years. One reason could be the millions of smaller bass. It is well known that smaller bass are more aggressive when feeding than the large ones. Most experienced fishermen will tell you that they have cast a jig or plastic worm to a large bass only to watch a smaller one dart in and grab it.
