Spring fishing has provided a nice mix this year

They have not caught any black drumfish around the Atlantic City rockpiles recently, but the ever-widening flock of fishers roosting out on jetties or close by on the beaches has numerous species to pick up. First, it was ling, back when the water was really cold and the weather sometimes decent.

Then, tautog were biting immediately when the latest season opened April 1. Black drum made a surprise visit. Blowfish puffed in, too. Through all of that, small striped bass ruled the waves with an occasional keeper more than the 28-inch legal minimum mixed in. White perch were often plentiful in the rivers and streams.
