About 30 seconds into my call with Ron Retzlaff of Orangevale, he shouted to his fishing partners, Mark Wilson of Elk Grove, Mike Steer of Loomis and Rich Bruce of Newcastle, “Double On! Get the rods.” Then before I hung up, he shouted out, “Double On!” again. Even though we had been on the call for less 10 minutes, he reported that his fishing partners had boated four keeper stripers during that time on Tuesday.
The anglers were trolling the West Bank of the Sacramento River above Collinsville with Yo-Zuri lures, tipped with plastic worms, between markers Nos. 11 and 13. The anglers ended up catching 25 keepers to eight pounds, including good numbers of five to seevn-pound fish, and seven shakers. Fishing was also great the previous day, when Retzlaff and his fishing buddy caught 27 keepers and 3 shakers. The anglers on both days kept their limits and released the rest of the fish.
