“Sometimes, I can start catching them as soon as I bait my hook,” Williams said as he settled into one of his favorite fishing spots, just beyond the rush of traffic on Ramsey Street. “Today, I can’t get a bite, aside from the gnats. Maybe the fish are all taking the day off. I ain’t got one yet, but you know? It’s all right. There’s nothing like a day relaxing with a fishing pole.”
Across the Cape Fear region a delightful day of sunshine and light breezes lured people out for one final summer fling. Many headed for one of the city’s three public pools, including College Lakes, for one more splash. After today, the Keith Bates pool at College Lakes will be closed until Memorial Day, 2018.
