Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies said late Monday afternoon that two unattended backpacks found outside the Gainesville Bass Pro Shops did not contain explosives and were deemed safe.
Deputies received a call concerning the backpacks, which were found on the far west side of the parking lot of the Celebration Pointe store, located at 2650 Bass Pro Shops Blvd., at 11:17 a.m., said sheriff’s spokesman Art Forgey. Employees at nearby businesses were kept indoors as deputies investigated. Forgey said a team was still working to determine the complete contents of the backpacks.
