Sallisaw angler Gary Cox was less than an ounce from beating the Oklahoma state record largemouth bass with his catch weighing 14 pounds, 13 ounces. Lots of good pictures and funny video with this one. Dr. Gary Cox, a veterinarian in Sallisaw, Okla. was fishing with his buddies Scott Shell and Trevor Teague on Broken Bow Lake when he hooked into a once-in-a-lifetime bass. He was fishing a Strike King Rage Craw on a Kistler […]
While February can be good for redfish, trout and sheepshead, it is much more loved by freshwater fishers obsessed with heavy-bodied speckled perch and bass. This month hasn’t yet produced a spectacular speck spawn, but it has been absolutely sparkling for large bass at their spawning time. There will undoubtedly be better days ahead for anglers looking for lots of bites and big numbers, but it’s hard to imagine things improving much in the way […]
There are plenty of fish being caught all over the area. Offshore, snapper fishing has been steady for lanes, muttons and mangroves along with black sea bass, triggerfish, porgies and Atlantic sharpnose sharks. At the inlet, anglers are catching flounder, pompano and black drum on the bottom, bluefish, jacks and Spanish mackerel on top. Inshore, the snook fishing has been very good around structures on the changing tides. Redfish are being caught along mangrove shorelines […]

A world-class fish story with a crazy twist emerged this past week from Bullards Bar Reservoir, a Northern California lake becoming known as America’s newest big bass factory. It started when two biologists and fishing buddies, Adam Koons and Naoaki Ikemiyagi, started roaming Northern California with their kayaks to fish lakes for giant spotted bass. They ended up at Bullards Bar in the northern Sierra foothills east of Marysville. “I was out there specifically […]
It took a lure with a funny name to make a winter fisherman out of this fair-weather angler. That was many moons ago when I was just getting my feet wet learning how to wrangle a few bass out of Beaver Lake. It was a new piece of water for me. I did OK in the spring and summer. Top-water lures and plastic worms were good for a couple of fish almost every trip when […]
