The good ice didn’t last very long this year and I’ve seen a lot of open water throughout the area. It won’t be long and you will be seeing boats heading up and down the road as anglers head to their favorite fishing hole.

In this time of the year, attention focuses on making that first fishing trip of the season and putting that first good fish into the boat. Here are a few of my tips that have helped me over the years on those first few spring trips. This time of the year the sun’s angle to the earth is not as direct as it is in June, July and August. The sun is still in the southern part of the sky and is bouncing its rays off the earth at much more of an angle. This means that the north facing banks are going to get the majority of the sun’s rays during the early months.
