Tips from Yonkers police to protect against mailbox fishing

Yonkers police said they’ve received reports of mailbox fishing from neighboring communities and have provided tips about how to protect against it. Mailbox fishing is when someone uses a sticky substance or adhesive on a lead to pull mail out of a mailbox.

The postal service is in the process of upgrading door style mailboxes in Yonkers to the drop-slot variety, police said.  “As the holidays approach and mailings increase, please see the following tips to keep your money and checks safe when using a mailbox,” Yonkers police said in a statement.
