While February can be good for redfish, trout and sheepshead, it is much more loved by freshwater fishers obsessed with heavy-bodied speckled perch and bass. This month hasn’t yet produced a spectacular speck spawn, but it has been absolutely sparkling for large bass at their spawning time.
There will undoubtedly be better days ahead for anglers looking for lots of bites and big numbers, but it’s hard to imagine things improving much in the way of quality fish. Last Friday, we chronicled the most impressive run of area big bass catches in a long while. This week, things got better.
