As the sun begins to peek through the trees, giving the first glimpse of a new day in the River City, the parking lot at Ingalls Harbor already is buzzing with activity. Trucks pulling bass boats line the asphalt path leading to the Ingalls Harbor launch.
Some anglers are preparing their boats and gear for a day on the water. Others are gathered in the parking lot, enjoying camaraderie with peers who share their passion for bass fishing. It’s a busy mid-June Saturday, but there is not a major tournament scheduled. This is just a typical weekend scene at one of the state’s largest boat launch facilities: a scene Wheeler Lake facilities have not always enjoyed.
