The southeast plains of Colorado are home to a number of “prairie lakes”. In the mid-to-late 90s, several years of high water resulted in this area producing some of the best warm water fishing in Colorado.
John Martin Reservoir was the star, but other reservoirs such as Nee Noshe, Nee Gronda, Queens, Adobe Creek and Two Buttes were teaming with saugeye, wiper, crappie, catfish and more. These reservoirs can be very susceptible to water level fluctuations. Dry conditions that followed saw these once incredible fisheries reduced to a memory of their past greatness.
