Tygart Lake State Park is home to many different outdoor adventures including an attraction to fish. The popular lake in Taylor County measures to 1,750 acres reaching out to 10 miles. Anglers come from all over for a chance to catch walleye, musky, crappie, perch, bullhead catfish, carp, northern pike, numerous pan fish, smallmouth and largemouth bass.
All fish found in Tygart Lake are sustained through natural reproduction rather than by stocking. Normally some of the best months to fish for smallmouth and largemouth is in April and May, but this month in particular has been a hit or miss due to weather. The rain has brought in a lot of rain pushing the water levels as high as 8 feet.
